- Don’t include too many keywords in your title, description or keyword tags. Use your keywords in legitimate ways that make sense to your reader. - Do not overuse keywords in the main part of your website content articles either. Use the guide that when your copy is read aloud, it makes sense. A good rule of thumb is to include a keyword or keyword phrase about three to four times per 500 word article.
- Use keywords that are relevant to your website content. Don’t use keywords that don’t have anything to do with your website just to attract visitors. An example of this would be if your website was about birds and you kept repeating the words ‘sex’ or ‘MP3’. This is another form of keyword spamming.
- Do not imbed your keyword text in images. Because search engines can only read real text (text that you can copy and paste) you get no benefit from using those words for your keyword density.
- Don’t use keywords that are too common. Try to use keywords or phrases that have a good result in keyword searching, but are not too widely popular. An example of this would be the keyword ‘dog’. That is too broad and you cannot hope to compete using that as a keyword. Your phrase (as it may apply to what your website is about) might be ‘buy dog clothes’ or ‘designer dog collars’.
